Welcome to The Canmore Trust Podcast where we share conversations of hope, support and connection.

In this eleventh episode, John Gibson is joined by Jane Macdonell, a retired consultant paediatrician from the Scottish Borders, who shares the story of her son Harris who died by suicide at age 19. Jane reflects on Harris’s lively spirit, his love of music, sport and performance and the challenges he faced. She speaks openly about systemic challenges from no adolescent beds to gaps in neurodiversity care. Jane has since found purpose through the Harris Trust, creating neuro-affirming music, sport and outdoor activities that give young neurodivergent people a safe space to thrive.

This conversation underscores the heightened suicide risk for neurodivergent youth and the urgent need for education, empathy and safe spaces in schools and services.
