Welcome to The Canmore Trust Podcast where we share conversations of hope, support and connection.

In this twelfth episode, John Gibson is joined by Fiona Drouet, who shares the story of her daughter Emily and the impact of her death by suicide. Emily was the eldest in the family, a bright, musical young woman who cared deeply for others and brought warmth into every room.

Fiona speaks openly about the early shock and denial after Emily died, the grief journey for her children and the anger that can sit alongside love and loss.

The conversation also explores the failures she believes families face in university systems, the importance of talking honestly about suicide and the need for stronger prevention, intervention and accountability. Fiona reflects on how Emily’s death led to the creation of EmilyTest, a charity working to improve safety standards in Colleges and Universities.
